VITO is a leading European independent research and technology organisation in the areas of cleantech and sustainable development, elaborating solutions for the large societal challenges of today. VITO provides innovative and high-quality solutions whereby large and small companies can gain a competitive advantage and advises industries and governments on determining their policy for the future. VITO has 800 highly qualified employees of 45 nationalities who work on international projects all around the world. VITO focuses on five different research programmes: sustainable chemistry, energy, health, materials management, and land use. VITO’s electrical system research team has broad experience in providing a suitable interface between electricity storage units and their associated systems, based on an extensive knowledge of storage technologies and their behaviour in international research projects and industrial collaboration. One of the team's focus themes is the development of advanced monitoring and management systems to ensure the safe, reliable, and performant operation of different storage technologies, such as fuel cells, supercapacitors, and batteries. This technology and its related patents are built upon extensive expertise in testing and modelling on cell, module, and system levels.

VITO will take a leading role in Task 5.3, responsible for developing the hardware for supercapacitor management that can host advanced control algorithms and can interact, in a cost-efficient way, with other storage technologies. Next, to support the supercapacitor system prototype definition and validation, VITO will also support the definition of a testing programme for the evaluation and validation of the supercapacitor development within the project. Besides, VITO will contribute to the electrode preparation, mini-supercap assembly and testing (Task 4.3)
